How to Setup a LAN Network for a Bank
A secure Local Area Network (LAN) for a bank would be similar to any other LAN just with a huge emphasis on security. Concentrating on Firewalls and Security and avoiding open wireless access points should be followed. Banks obviously require a bit more security than other networks and with a little care you will sleep well knowing the network is secure. Keep in mind from time to time your bank may need to be audited for security and if you follow the outline the Network will pass with flying colors.

1
Install new Category 6 wiring throughout the building so as to avoid a compromised wire that may be a potential security breach. A rogue wire could be coming from next door, or another area that is outside of the bank's premises.
-
2
Label each wire at the wall jack and on the network switch side to identify the wire and guarantee security. Do not connect any wire that does not correspond to the wiring diagram.

3
Secure the wireless if an Access Point is absolutely necessary. Use the highest level of encryption your wireless access point will allow. WEP encryption is the lowest and easiest to crack encryption level. You should use WPA and an extra long key of 14 or more mixed characters as that is virtually uncrackable.

4
Bundle the wiring in one bunch to keep it together and easy to keep track of. Plug each wire into your Network Switch and test connectivity to the jack.
-
5
Keep the door to the Network Switch locked to prevent compromising the Network. Keep documentation for all work and diagrams stored in a secure location.
