Instructions

    • 1

Select two or three colors to use in your superhero costume. As your costume is intended to represent a uniform, repetition of color will allow the style to come together cohesively. Too many colors will clash, taking away from the traditionally polished look of a superhero. One dark color and one bright color is ideal. Select all props and costume pieces in your selected colors.

    • 2

Gather a fitted bodysuit, or sports training top for men, a skirt or speedo, and a pair of tights. Your bodysuit or training top should be a color identical to your tights. A pair of dark colored boots work best as shoes for your superhero uniform.

    • 3

Create accessories applicable to your superhero powers. For example, if you have X-ray vision, color the lenses of swimming goggles with a yellow highlighter as X-ray goggles. Basic face makeup, like black eye-liner, is a convenient tool in drawing on an eye mask.

    • 4

Apply an emblem to your costume to represent your powers. This emblem can be made from strips of masking tape colored with permanent markers. Cut the strips to create a basic design that represents your power, like a lightning bolt, and apply them to the chest area of your costume and to the shoulder. Then color in the tape with a marker.

    • 5

Slick your hair away from a distinctive part using strong styling gel. If you have long hair, part your hair then pull it back into a ponytail. You can also wear a swimming cap if you prefer not to show your hair.

    • 6

Put on your costume tights, shirt, speedo or skirt and boots. Add a large black waist belt made from a black elastic band purchased at a craft store. Secure your belt with safety pins. Next, add your costume accessories.

    • 7

Complete your look with a cape made from an unused pillowcase or long towel. Remember to use solid prints in your selected color palette. Clip your "cape" to the shoulders of your shirt using two safety pins on each shoulder.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always add your cape last as it is the part of your costume that will likely need the most adjustments.
