How to Make an iChat Account on a Macbook

Create an iChat account on your MacBook for instant messaging and video chat.

The Apple account ID you create using the laptop setup assistant on your MacBook is also the username you can use to create a new iChat account username. iChat is the default instant-message chat application for Macintosh computers. iChat provides instant messaging as well as video conferencing from one computer to another, or group video chats when other users also have the latest version of iChat installed. If you're a MobileMe or .Mac user, your iChat account is the same as your MobileMe or .Mac user account.

Instructions

1. Click "Go" on the MacBook's menu bar, click "Applications" and double-click "iChat."

2. Click "iChat" on the menu bar, and click "Preferences."

3. Click "Accounts" and click the "+" icon. Click the "Get an iChat Account" icon, and create a new Apple ID and password. Fill out the form in the "My Apple ID" window of your Internet browser, and click "Create Apple ID."

4. Click the "Account Type" menu in the iChat window, and click ".Mac.com." Enter your new Apple ID and password, and click "Done."
