How to Attach a Needle to a Syringe

How to Attach a Needle to a Syringe thumbnail
A needle should be properly attached to a syringe.

A syringe needle is generally made of metal with a plastic hub. Attaching a needle to syringe should be done properly to keep the needle clean and sterilized. The needle and syringe meet at the hub part of the needle. Improperly attaching a needle to a syringe puts the health of the patient at risk.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the correctly sized needle for the syringe you are using.

    • 2

Remove the paper wrapping on the needle just enough to expose the hub part of the needle.

    • 3

Hold the syringe in one hand and hold the needle (in its paper covering) with the other hand.

    • 4

Attach the needle to the syringe and twist clockwise until you feel the needle tightening. Some syringes require you to push the needle into the syringe until tight.

    • 5

      Throw away the paper covering.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your fingers away from the area where the needle and syringe meet.
