  • Pot
  • Wire whisk
  • Spoon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

    • 1

      Put the butter and brown sugar in the pot and bring to a boil. Be sure to stir the mixture constantly while it boils. Allow the mixture to boil for two minutes.

      Add the milk to the pot and continue to boil for another two minutes. Continue stirring while the mixture boils.

      Add the vanilla and salt to the mixture and blend completely. Remove the pot from heat.

      Incorporate the powdered sugar slowly into the hot mixture with the wire whisk. Add approximately 1/2 cup at a time until the powdered sugar is completely blended. Continue whisking until all the sugar is incorporated and the icing has the consistency of smooth peanut butter.

      Cool icing to room temperature and then ice cake.
