How to Connect an ACN to a Laptop

ACN manufactures a line of video phones that connect to the Internet and send and receive audio and video signals. ACN video phones can be used anywhere an Internet connection is available, so the video feature on the phone becomes a useful tool for business travelers who need to make remote presentations, for example. By connecting the ACN to a laptop with Wi-Fi capability using an Ethernet cable, you can place and receive video calls almost anywhere.

Instructions

1. Turn on your laptop's Wi-Fi function. A sliding switch may be on the left edge of a laptop, as it is on Dell models, or the Wi-Fi feature may activate with a push-button switch on top of the keyboard. Look for the satellite dish icon for Wi-Fi next to the button or switch on many laptops.

2. Connect an Ethernet cable from a port on the laptop to the port labeled "WAN" on the back edge of the ACN videophone.

3. Click the "Control Panel" on the laptop to access "System and Security" and click "Allow a Program to Communicate through Firewall," or similar wording, depending on your operating system. On a Mac laptop, click "System Preferences," select "Sharing" and click "Internet" to select "Share Your connection." Click "Built-in Ethernet" to choose the Ethernet connection to the ACN video phone.

4. Use the ACN phone normally when the green light illuminates next to the "WAN" port.
