How to Optimize Linksys Wireless Network

A Linksys wireless network will allow you to surf the Internet without any wires. This is the optimal solution for mobile devices, like smart phones and laptops. However this is also a great solution for placing a desktop computer in an area that is impossible to run an Ethernet wire. These devices offer great ranges of wireless signal, but due to some physical barriers the signal can be degraded. Placement of the device is critical for the optimum signal.

Instructions

1. Place the Linksys wireless unit in an open space, preferably up above any obstructions. Also avoid placing the unit near a brick wall if you are trying to pass signal through the wall. Wall mounting the unit near the ceiling would be ideal as this would guarantee to bypass most obstructions.

2. Test the antenna directions by twisting and pointing them in the direction you want the signal to travel. Walk with your laptop and measure the signal strength in the areas where you know you will be accessing the network.

3. Install high output antennas that are direct replacements for your system. These are made by Linksys and will fit directly on your unit without requiring any modifications. These antennas offer a more concentrated signal and should help reach those remote areas and boost your speed in more covered areas.
