Microsoft Windows 2000 Online Tutorial

Microsoft Windows is the heart of any computer's system, and without an adequate operating system users would not be able to access software programs or files. Windows consists of several versions, including XP, Vista, 2000 and, the latest, 7. There are a few tutorials available online for Windows 2000; however, the majority of them are not free and do not provide an entire tutorial for the software. Free tutorials are available, but provide only a basic overview of Windows 2000.

      Access the Windows 2000 tutorial on the University of Rhode Island's website (http://homepage.cs.uri.edu/book/tutorials/win2000/windows2000.html), which consists of eight topics that includes an introduction, information on the basic components and practice sessions.

      Read through the topics: "Microsoft Windows 2000," "The Desktop and Taskbar," "What is a Window?," "The Mouse," "Selection Cursor, Insertion Point and Mouse Pointer," "Menus and Menu Commands," "Dialog Boxes" and "Exiting Windows."

      In "The Mouse" topic area, follow the instructions indicated by the yellow arrows labeled "do this."

      Continue reading the remaining topics, while stopping at the yellow "do this" arrows to practice performing these operations on your own.
