How to Apply to Baylor Armed Services DPT Program
The Baylor Armed Service DPT program, officially known as the U.S. Army-Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy, is a program for students wanting to pursue a position in the Army, Navy or the Public Health Services as a commissioned officer. Students accepted into the program receive a free education from Baylor University and are required to serve a period of active duty with the armed services, which begins upon acceptance into the program. To begin the application process, prospective students must contact a Regional U.S. Army Health Recruiting Counselor within the jurisdiction where they reside.

Complete a bachelor's degree in any subject. While you may hold a bachelor's degree in any subject, in order to apply to the DPT program, you will need some prerequisite courses. Those courses include statistics; biological sciences, including anatomy with lab, physiology, and biology with lab; physical sciences, including physics with lab and chemistry with lab; and social sciences, including psychology and any other course in the social sciences. Students must have completed required courses no more than 10 years before applying. Students should aim for a GPA of 3.67 or above. This score reflects the averages of all students accepted into the program in recent years.

Take the Graduate Record Examination and make sure you take the analytical written portion of the exam. You should aim for a cumulative score of 1162 or above and a verbal score of 562 or above. Volunteer in a physical therapy clinic and complete 100 observation hours. This means you must volunteer and be observed by a superior who will record your performance as your interact with patients and perform related tasks. You will need to speak with a U.S Army Regional Healthcare counselor to obtain the required paperwork for documentation.

Start the application process by contacting a U.S. Army Regional Healthcare recruiter. The Baylor University website has compiled complete contact information broken down by all regions and you can refer to the references section of this article to find those contacts. This is the only way to begin the application process. You cannot apply directly with Baylor University, fill out an application online, or send one through the mail. You will need to contact the appropriate representative and arrange an in-person meeting. You will go through the recruiting process similar to other prospective military personnel, although the procedures may vary for the program. Your recruiter will outline those procedures for you when you meet with him or her.
