How to Make Computer Based Flash Cards

Studying for a test by using computer-based flashcards grabs students' attention. Break away from the old style paper flashcards and make them using a computer. Many presentation software programs lend themselves to not only making presentations, but also flashcards. Making them on a computer is an interactive way to involve students in reviewing facts or studying for an upcoming test. Follow a few basic steps to develop some interactive learning.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide how you want to use the flashcards. You can use flashcards to review reading, math, social studies and science.

    • 2

Select a presentation software to use to create the flashcards. The Resource section lists several options.

    • 3

Create a slide using the presentation software selected. Create a question to put on the first slide. If math is the subject of the flashcards, the first slide would have a math fact, for example, 2+2.

    • 4

Create a second slide. On this slide, put the answer to the fact written on the previous slide. Using the example above, this slide would have the number 4 on it. Continue these steps for the rest of the flashcards.

    • 5

Set the slide transition for 3 seconds, which is a good amount of think time for the student. This transition sets the amount of time the student has to answer the question before the answer appears. The child will be shown the first slide with the question, have three seconds to think of the answer, and then the next slide that contains the answer will appear.

    • 6

Continue making flashcards until you have the number of cards the students will use to help them study.

Tips & Warnings

  • Flash cards benefit people of all ages, from preschoolers to adults.
