How to Uninstall Smart Virus Remover

Malware is often transmitted from one computer to another through personal email.

Smart Virus Remover is a malware program masquerading as a free tool that removes viruses from a computer. Downloading this program might slow down your computer or cause an influx of pop-up ads. Once you download it, it may be difficult to remove.

Instructions

Remove the Main Program

1. Open "Control Panel" from your Start menu.

2. Click on "Add or Remove Programs."

3. Select "Smart Virus Remover" from the list, click "Change/Remove" and click "OK."

4. Check your start menu and your tray. The icon for Smart Virus Remover should have disappeared from both. Even if it did, malware programs can be tricky, so to make sure it's completely gone, additional steps are advised.

Remove Any Residual Malware from Your Computer

1. Download and install the latest version of Spybot Search & Destroy, a free program that removes most malware from your computer. Run a full scan with this program, then restart your computer.

2. Download and install Ad-Aware Free. Run a full scan with Ad-Aware and restart your computer.

3. Uninstall both malware-removal programs if you don't think you'll use them again, and then restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure the copies of Spybot and Ad-Aware you download are from secure sites so you don't end up with another malware program.
