1
Take acting lessons at a local theatre or night school. While you will not be acting on screen in cartoons, your voice will be present in films, shorts and commercials. If your voice is not convincing, the animated character will not be convincing either.
-
2
Hire a voice teacher to teach you how to utilize your voice. If you know how to use your voice in various ways, there is a larger chance that you will get hired for more voiceover jobs. Continue to take lessons to learn how to effectively use your voice to create various voices and characters.
-
-
3
Practice your voices in front of friends and family, who can give you constructive criticism. They know you best, so they can tell you what you need to work on and what your character trait is.
-
4
Prepare a voice demo tape you will use to send out for voice jobs. The demo should include a spoken paragraph in various voices to show your abilities and capabilities for diversifying your character voices.
-
5
Start applying to cartoon voice jobs. Do not only aim for larger movies or short films, as those are the jobs everyone is applying for. Apply for small and local voiceover jobs instead, as you might have more luck landing one of those jobs if you have little to no experience.
-
6
Apply to radio stations as they often need commercials with different and comedic voices. If you start small, you can build up a resume of voiceover experience, which makes you more appealing when you apply for larger jobs in the future.
