How to Change User Account Controls

The Windows User Account Control, or UAC, is a feature that restricts the ability to change computer settings to the administrator. By asking for your permission to execute a task, UAC prevents spyware, viruses and malware from altering your system. Changing your UACs does not require many steps. Enable a security system such as a firewall if you intend to disable the UAC feature.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Windows" key on the keyboard. Place the mouse cursor on "Getting Started" and click "Change UAC settings." This opens the UAC Settings.

    • 2

Change the notification settings to "Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)" to decrease the security level.

    • 3

Alter the settings to "Always notify me when" to increase the security level of UAC.

    • 4

Place the settings on "Never notify" if you want to disable the UAC feature.

    • 5

Click "OK" once you make the changes you want to the UACs.
