How to Exceed the Google Geocode Limits

How to Exceed the Google Geocode Limits thumbnail
Google's geocoder converts addresses into usable latitude and longitude points.

With Google's Geocoding API, mobile and website developers can directly access a geocoder using an HTTP request. Google has simplified the geocoding process by providing users with a geocoder that converts mailing addresses, city names and zip codes into usuable latitude and longitude points. Web developers looking to use the geocoder often should become familiar with the limits imposed by Google in order to avoid being banned from the interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Query Google's geocoder with more than 2,500 geolocation requests during a 24-hour period from a single IP address and you will exceed your query limit. Google reserves the right to change this limit at any time without notice so be aware of this possibility.

    • 2

Increase the rate limit at which you submit your geocoding requests. Submitting requests at a rapid rate will raise a red flag and the Geocoding API may temporarily stop working or you may be blocked altogether.

    • 3

Upgrade to Google Maps API Premier and make more than 100,000 requests per day. Surpassing 100,000 requests per day per from a single IP address will cause you to exceed your limit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your Geocoding capabilities may be blocked temporarily or you may be permanently banned if you repeatedly exceed your limits.
