Take Care of a Majesty Palm

Majesty palm plants can grow to 10 feet tall indoors when planted in a container. The palm is suitable for use as an indoor floor plant. Majesty palms have bright green, tall fronds. When the palm is given the proper care, it can grow indefinitely in any home. However, indoor plants do need care to protect it from pests and yellowing leaves.

Instructions

    • 1

Water the majesty palm once every two days in warmer temperatures or every four days in cooler conditions. Add enough water so that the water reaches the root ball. Keep the soil moist --- not dry and not soggy.

    • 2

Fertilize the majesty palm with a slow releasing fertilizer twice during the growing season. Use a fertilizer with a ratio of 3-1-3. Fertilizer with 15-5-15 (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium) will work the best on the indoor palm plant.

    • 3

Place the palm in a location with partial shade. Although the majesty palm will thrive in direct sun, the plant and frond color will look its best with indirect sunlight.

    • 4

Grow the majesty palm outdoors in a container during spring, summer and fall but bring it indoors before the first frost, which will kill the palm. Keep the palm out of drafts during cold northern winters.

    • 5

Use a mister bottle during the growing season to keep some humidity around the palm tree. Watch for red spider mites when misting. If you see red spider mites, use a mild soap and a cloth to clean each frond to remove the pests.
