Pitch black eyes can create the spooky, possessed look you need to complete your Halloween costume or theatrical performance. This look is achieved through the use of novelty lenses that cover the eye with an opaque black color. You may choose the traditional lens style that just covers the cornea, or colored part of your eye, or you may opt for the more dramatic option called "sclera" lenses that cover the whites of your eyes and your pupils for a complete blacked-out effect.
Visit your dermatologist for a full eye inspection. Even if you don't require vision correction, you will still require a prescription for your novelty lenses and you will need to undergo a professional fitting for contacts.
Ask your optometrist about black sclera lenses. Your doctor should be able to recommend a number of reputable brands and options that offer special effects, "crazy" or novelty-style lenses.
Order the lenses from your optometrist. Your optometrist will invite you back to the office for a full fitting once the lenses have arrived.
Follow the manufacturer's directions for use. You may need to soak or rinse the lenses in contact solution before wear. Wash your hands with soap and warm water before handling the lenses.

Never purchase contact lenses through a private retailer unless your doctor has recommended them. The FDA warns that "cosmetic and novelty lenses pose a greater risk of corneal ulceration than prescription lenses because they are not fitted to each person by a qualified eye care professional. Moreover, many such lenses are not prepared and stored in a sterile fashion, which increases the risk of infection."
Novelty lenses are typically designed for limited wear. Check the manufacturer's instructions.
