Remove scope ring screws in only a few steps.

Scopes are used by many shooters and hunters on rifles, shotguns and even handguns. The scope is usually held in place by either a pair of scope rings or a rail that is attached to the top of the gun frame. Screws are used to secure the top and bottom rings together and hold the scope in place. Removing the screws is often necessary to change scopes or facilitate repair and cleaning.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any magazines or clips and access the firing chamber of the rifle, shotgun or pistol to determine if the weapon is loaded. Double check the weapon to ensure it is not loaded.

    • 2

Lay a towel on a sturdy work surface. Position the rifle, shotgun or pistol on the towel to protect the finish of the weapon.

    • 3

Identify the scope ring screws that are used to hold the top and bottom rings of the scope mount around the scope tube.

    • 4

Insert an appropriate sized torx wrench into the screw head. Make sure to use a properly sized wrench so that you do not damage the screw.

    • 5

Hold the weapon and scope and turn the torx wrench counterclockwise; this will loosen the screw. Continue turning to completely remove the screw from the ring. Move to the next scope ring and repeat the process to remove the second screw.
