How to Get Seeds From Daylilies
Growing daylilies from seed is a rewarding experience that's full of surprises. Daylily seeds do not grow true to type. This means that each daylily grown from seed will have its own characteristics and look different from the parent plant. However, this surprise requires patience. Daylilies grown from seed take several seasons to produce its flower. But when they do, the flowers are always unique. Does this Spark an idea?

Prune the daylily pod from the plant when the pod is dry and cracked open and the seeds rattle around inside of it.

Pull open the pod by widening the crack. Shake the seeds out onto a paper plate. Allow the seeds to dry overnight.

Store the daylily seeds. Mix them with 1/2 cup of moistened garden soil, place the mixture in a freezer bag and store it in the refrigerator for four to six weeks to break the seeds' cold dormancy.

Tips & Warnings
After the seeds are cold stratified, you can plant them or remove them from the soil, spread them out to dry for 24 hours then place them in a plastic bag and store them at room temperature.
