1
Purchase and set up a shelving unit that fits over the back of the toilet or tank area. These units come in basic or more elaborate designs and are made out of materials such as wire shelving, wood and particle board. This adds storage space to the bathroom and distracts from the plain toilet.

2
Add rugs and covers to the toilet and around it. You can find rugs that are shaped to fit around the base of the toilet, and they come in many colors and textures. Covers for commode seats can match the rug and provide a splash of color to the stark white bowl. If you really want to cover the toilet completely, you can find covers for the tank lid, as well.

Place items on top of the tank. Include a basket on the tank lid and put rolled up wash clothes, magazines, lotions or other items for use by guests.
-
4
Place decorative items on the tank lid to help pull the theme of the bathroom together. For example, in a bathroom with a coastal theme, you might place large seashells on the tank or a small piece of driftwood.
