How to Ripen Kiwi Off the Tree
Kiwi fruit is a small brown egg-shaped fruit that is similar in taste to that of a strawberry or melon. Available year round from both California and New Zealand growers, the kiwi fruit is named for the symbol of New Zealand, the kiwi bird. Popular as snack, in recipes or as a garnish, kiwi is available for purchase from grocery stores and markets throughout the United States. Ripening a Kiwi at home requires time, but can be hastened. Choose a kiwi fruit that is not yet completely ripe. Feel the kiwi to determine if it is still somewhat firm to the touch.

Open a small brown paper bag. Choose a banana that is not completely ripe and place in the bottom of the bag.

Place one or two kiwi fruit in the bottom of the bag with the banana. Tightly close the paper bag by gathering and rolling down the top.

Place the brown paper bag with the kiwi and banana in a warm location out of direct sunlight or other heat source.

Open the bag periodically to check on the ripening process and hold the kiwi to determine the firmness of the fruit. Remove the kiwi from the bag when ripened and place in a refrigerator for up to a week or so.

Once ripe, store kiwi away from other fruits.
