How to Shut Down Network Computers With DOS
A network administrator needs control of computers that are in another office or location. For this reason, Microsoft provides a "shutdown" utility that lets you reboot a computer from the Windows MS DOS command prompt. This command is only accessible by a network administrators to protect users' computers from being reboot by anyone. This is beneficial if you installed software remotely and need to reboot the computer.

Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "cmd" into the text box in the pop-up menu. Press "Enter" to open the MS DOS window.

Type the following command into the prompt:
shutdown --m \\computername --r --f
Replace "computername" with your network computer. The "r" and "f" switches force programs to shut down and reboot.

Press "Enter." You are prompted for the administrator password, if you are not already logged in as an administrator. Type the administrator password for the computer and press "Enter."
