How to Write Amazing Essays
Developing essay-writing skills does not come easily. It often takes a person multiple attempts to produce an essay worthy of praise. Sometimes the structure of an essay can cause problems for a writer. Other times it may be the content. No matter what the reason, essays can be tricky to write. But once you develop the skills necessary to writing a fluid, cohesive essay, you can write essays more easily without worrying about whether you have done something wrong.

1
Decide on a topic you have an interest in. If a teacher has given you the topic, zero in on an area within that topic you enjoy writing or learning about. For instance, if your assigned topic is the Cold War and you enjoy watching movies, focus on relevant movies made during the Cold War. If instead you have to write about something that has happened in your own life, pick the most interesting and relevant moment that brings back vivid memories. No matter the topic, you want to try your best to make the topic interesting for you. That way the topic becomes interesting for the reader.

2
Research your specific topic and pick out interesting information that helps you represent the topic fully. For example, if you have to write about the election of 2008, find relevant election statistics, quotes from the people closest to the campaigns and commentaries from renowned journalists. Even if you have to write a personal essay, some research into the topic at hand (such as a family member dying) works to your advantage.

3
Figure out your purpose for writing the essay. If you have to write about organic farmers, you want to describe in your essay what you believe about them---whether these farmers are necessary in today's economy. If instead you write about your experience with a bad teacher, you want to show the readers what consequences come with hiring bad teachers.

Create an outline to help structure your essay. You want to start with the obligatory introduction, which counts as a heading. Then, move on to the body paragraphs. Every heading for each paragraph should convey a new subtopic within the essay, unless you write a narrative essay, in which case you can have a more ambiguous outline. If you are writing about the Renaissance, these subtopics can consist of: science, art and aristocracy, among others. Write your statistics, quotes and other facts under each heading to organize your research.

5
Write your essay by showing, not telling whenever possible. Though you want to present facts and figures, you also want to give reasons that help present your opinion or purpose. For instance, when writing about your position on gay marriage, demonstrate the lives that this controversial topic affects and pull in as many sources of information that make that topic memorable for your readers. Amazing essays pull the reader in and keep them reading until the very end.
