How to Make a Seed Bead Belt

How to Make a Seed Bead Belt thumbnail
It takes many seed beads to make a complete belt.

Belts are functional and fashionable. Pick out a variety of seed colors to make a seed bead belt customized for just for you. Seed beads are small, so it is recommended that you buy them in bulk if you plan on making various belts. Once you have more practice, try designing patterns to bead into your belt by varying the colors and sizes of the seed beads. These belts can make great personalized gifts, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your waist or hips to know what size to make the belt. Place the tape measure around your hip or waist and wrap it around until the end of the measuring tape matches up with the other end. Subtract the length of the buckle ends. Mark this measurement down.

    • 2

Unroll beading string to twice the length of the measurement you wrote down.

    • 3

Thread the thread through the needle and pull through about two inches of thread to fold over itself. Tie three to five knots together at the end of the thread so that a bead can not fit past it.

    • 4

String on one larger bead and ten to fifteen of the smaller seed beads. Loop the seed beads through the end of a belt buckle and back through the first larger bead.

    • 5

String on as many seed beads as needed to reach the desired measured length. Once at the end, string on another larger bead and loop around the other end of the belt buckle and back through the larger bead. String the remaining thread back through the strand of beads. Tie the two ends together.

    • 6

Repeat steps two to five to achieve the desired belt width. When done beading, add a drop or two of beading glue over the knots and cut excess string off as close to the knot as possible. Add drops of glue to the string over the belt buckle to ensure the strands do not slide back and forth, if desired.
