The edible seeds in a pomegranate are called "arils."

Pomegranates are red fruit with tough exteriors. The only part of the pomegranate that is edible are the seeds. Pomegranates were originally grown in Asia and they made their way into North America with Spanish travelers around the 19th century. If you are writing a report about Spanish travelers, or about fruit in general for a course in Spanish, you will want to discuss the pomegranate.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain an English-to-Spanish dictionary. You can find an English-to-Spanish dictionary in a bookstore or library, or you can use a free dictionary on the Internet, such as SpanishDict.com.

    • 2

Locate "pomegranate" in the dictionary. You will find that "granada" is the Spanish word for "pomegranate."

    • 3

Locate "fruit" in the dictionary. You will see that "fruta" is the Spanish word for "fruit."

    • 4

Translate "pomegranate fruit." In Spanish, the adjective comes after the subject, and "pomegranate fruit" would translate literally to "fruta granada." But because both "fruta" and "granada" are nouns, the "fruta" portion is not necessary and "granada" is an acceptable translation for "pomegranate fruit."
