For the best ride with the least disturbance to the water, drive in a barbell shape to whip the skier quickly around a circle turn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Drive straight for as far as the water will allow. The more you turn, the rougher the water will become.

  2. Step 2

Signal back to the skier that you are going to turn.

  3. Step 3

Turn slightly to the left, then turn a full 180 degrees to the right. The diameter of your turning circle should be about 60 to 80 yards.

  4. Step 4

Continue straight as far as the water allows and then repeat the same turn. Seen from above, this course would look like a barbell, with a long, straight middle and a circle at each end.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have the observer watch the skier closely during the turn - the centrifugal force can cause extremely fast speeds.
  • If the skier goes outside the outer wake as the boat turns, the centrifugal force will cause skier to whip around very quickly.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times when driving and turning the boat. Let the observer watch the skier so you can concentrate on the water.
  • Observe proper boating safety at all times.
  • Everyone should wear life vests at all times.
  • Waterskiing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
