How to Restore Data in QuickBooks From a Back Up Disk

Intuit's QuickBooks program is accounting software that can be used to manage nearly every aspect of a small business. Once implemented into an environment, users and companies can become increasingly reliant upon the data it stores. For this reason, it is important to back up the QuickBooks files to prevent disaster in the event of a data loss. A good backup plan is to create a backup copy on external media, which can be kept in a separate location from the original file.

• Backup disk with QuickBooks file

Instructions

1. Insert your backup disc into the disc drive on the computer running QuickBooks.

2. Launch QuickBooks, then click the "File" button at the top of the window.

3. Select the "Open or Restore Company" option.

4. Click the "Restore a backup copy (.qbb)" option, then click the "Next" button.

5. Select the "Local Backup" option, then click the "Next" button.

6. Click the drop down menu next to "Look In" and navigate to the disk drive containing your QuickBooks backup disk.

7. Select the .qbb file from your disk, and click the "Open" button, then the "Next" button.

8. Click the drop-down menu next to "Save In" and specify a location for your new QuickBooks company file. The backup utility will select the same location as your previous company file, so you will only need to change the location if you want it to be different from your past company file.

9. Specify your backup file, then click the "Save" button to begin the data restore process. Remain near your computer in order to respond to any prompts from QuickBooks regarding your preferences for the new file.

Tips & Warnings

• Perform regular, frequent backups to your QuickBooks company file. In the event of a system crash or data file corruption, this will ensure that a minimal amount of data is lost.
