How to Link MSN Money & Excel

Using Excel to import data from the Internet is a reliable way to keep your information up to date. By creating a Web page query, you can import an entire Web page or only certain data and link the data to an Excel spreadsheet. Importing data from MSN Money can assist in keeping your stock information current and organized by allowing you to import only the information you need.

Instructions

  1. Import an Entire Page

      Open Microsoft Excel and click the "Data" tab. Select "From Web" in the Get External Data group. Excel opens a Web browser.

      Navigate to the MSN Money website.

      Click the "Import" button to import the entire Web page. Depending on the amount of content, this may take some time. When finished, Excel requests the cell you prefer the data to start in. Select the preferred cell or press "OK" to start in cell A1. Delete the data you do not want listed in the Excel worksheet.

      Update the spreadsheet to enter any new information or changes in the Web page by clicking "Refresh All" on the Data tab.

    Import Tables

      Open Microsoft Excel and click the "Data" tab. Select "From Web" in the Get External Data group. Excel opens a Web browser.

      Navigate to the MSN Money website.

      Scroll down the page and notice the yellow arrows that appear next to certain information. This information can be imported to Excel in a table format.

      Click a yellow arrow and then click the "Import" button to import it to your spreadsheet.

      Update the spreadsheet to enter any new information or changes in the Web page by clicking "Refresh All" on the Data tab.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you are attempting to import a table, the yellow arrows may not appear on a Web page. Click the button "Show Icons" to display the arrows.
