How to Secure an SMC Router

If the security on your SMC router is compromised, users may have be able to monitor the content you are accessing and be able to use your network to access the Internet. Securing your router allows you to create an encrypted password that will ensure that no unauthorized users access your wireless network without your permission.

Instructions

1. Open your Internet browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1, and press "Enter." You will be asked to enter a username and password. The username is "admin" and the password is "smcadmin."

2. Click "Enter setup Wizard" when prompted. Navigate to the security settings to secure the SMC router. Click the drop-down menu for "Security mode" and select "WPA2-PSK."

3. Click on the radio button for "AES" algorithm. SMC recommends these settings to maximize your network security.

4. Type in a pass phrase (password) for your secure network that will be easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess.

5. Click "Finish" at the bottom of the screen. The router will save the information and reboot itself.
