How to Rent Your Car for Advertisements
According to Wired magazine, beginning in the 1990s, some advertising firms began to pay drivers to decorate their cars with advertisements. In return for allowing all or a portion of their vehicle to be covered by ads, drivers are provided with regular cash payments, some of which are large enough to cover loan payments on the car. However, these ads are only available to drivers who drive along certain roads and highways for certain distances driving specific types of vehicles.

1
Get your car fixed up to a pristine condition. Cars that carry advertisements are generally required to be in excellent shape, as advertisers to not want to buy space on beat-up vehicles. If your car needs repairs, fix it. Also bring your auto insurance up to date, as many advertising firms require that their drivers be fully insured.

2
Chart your route and your mileage. Advertisers will only rent space from drivers who travel along certain routes for a certain number of miles each day, so as to be seen by a certain number of people. For example, a commuter who drives 50 miles per day on busy highways is more likely to be picked for an ad than someone who only drives down the street on a short dirt road. Make sure you know how and where you drive.

3
Contact local advertising firms in your area. While some national advertisers, such as Ads of Wheels, have national campaigns, many advertisers who sell space on cars are local firms. Call around in your area and ask if anyone knows a firm that's currently renting space from drivers.

Fill out an application. There are important criteria that candidates must fulfill to be hired. The person must generally be employed, have a clean driving record, and be fully insured. The person must also be willing to sit for a personal interview. Some drivers will be choosen to match a product. For example, an advertiser seeking a young, hip demographic might request a driver who is himself young and hip.

5
Submit your car for detailing. If you are selected to receive ads, you will have to allow the firm renting the space access to your car. Most advertisements can be easily applied and, just as importantly, easily removed when the campaign is over.
-
6
Stick to your routine. In order to continue to receive regular payments for the ads, a driver must stick to the routine he described in his application to the advertising company. If you stop driving, you will likely be requested to return the ad and payment will cease.

Tips & Warnings
Drew Livingston, president of Los Angeles-based Free Car Media, an advertising firm that rents space on cars, says drivers should avoid websites that charge a fee with the promise of securing the driver advertising on his vehicle. Livingston says any site charging a fee is probably a scam.
