How to Find Out If a MoneyGram Money Order Is Good?

Just because something appears to be real does not necessarily mean that it is. This is especially true for a MoneyGram money order. Unfortunately, there are some dishonest people in the world who will try to pass a fake money order. However, by doing your own little investigation, you can prevent yourself from becoming a victim of money order fraud.

Instructions

1. Touch the circle that is on the front of the MoneyGram money order. This circle is heat-sensitive. If the money order is good, the heat of your finger will cause it to change colors. If the color does not change, you have a fake money order.

2. Call MoneyGram at 800-666-3947. Provide the representative with the serial number that is on the money order. The representative will then be able to verify whether the money order is good.

3. Check the coloring on the money order. If the money order is faded or discolored, it may be a sign that the money order has been chemically washed. By chemically washing the money order, a scam artist can change the amount on a legitimate money order.

   The verification number verifies that the money order is legit. It does not consider the amount of the money order. For this reason, if you are still in doubt about whether the money order is good, don't accept it for payment.
