How to Connect Fold-Up Floor Cushions

Floor cushions are used for casual seating. Folding floor cushions are square or rectangular and filled with solid foam or sponge in the shape of the cushion. Typically, a folding cushion has two or three sections. Floor cushions connected end-to-end can be used for sleeping or lounging on the floor. Connect fold-up floor cushions with self-adhesive hook and loop tape to expand the function of the cushions, or to provide secure storage options for the cushion.

Connecting a Fold-Up Cushion to Itself

1. Measure the width of the floor cushion.

2. Cut one piece of hook tape and one piece of loop tape according to the width of the floor cushion.

3. Fold the cushion. Measure 1 inch in from the cushion's end edge in the area beneath the folded section of cushion folded over it. Make a chalk mark at this measurement.

4. Remove the backing from the hook tape. Press the hook tape firmly onto the cushion along the chalk mark.

5. Hold the top section of the cushion up with one hand, exposing the side of the cushion that is inside when the cushion is folded. Measure 1 inch forward from the end edge. Make a chalk mark on this measurement.

6. Remove the backing from the loop tape. Press the loop tape firmly onto the cushion along the chalk mark. Fold the cushion together, joining the hook and loop tapes. According to Instant Screen, hook and loop tape is durable and machine-washable. Hook and loop tape applied by adhesive will last longer if the cushion is air-dried rather than dried in the clothes dryer.

Connecting a Folding Cushion to Another Folding Cushion

1. Measure the width of the cushion's end. You will affix adhesive hook and loop tape to each cushion end so two or more cushions will connect end to end. According to Instant Screen, hook and loop tape is available in a wide array of colors. Choose a color that closely matches the color of your folding floor cushion.

2. Cut one hook tape and one loop tape for each cushion you wish to connect according to its width measurement.

3. Remove the backing from a hook tape strip. Center the hook tape strip horizontally across the cushion's end. Press the hook tape firmly onto one end of the cushion.

4. Remove the backing from a loop tape strip. Center the loop tape strip horizontally across the end of the second cushion. Press the loop tape firmly onto one end of the cushion.

5. Press the ends of the two cushions together, affixing the hook and loop tapes together to connect the fold-up cushions. Use the connected cushions as a floor mattress or lounger.
