How to Install an LCD Projection TV Lamp
LCD rear projection televisions create images by using a powerful lamp to project light through an LCD display, illuminating the various pixels in the display. The image is projected through a lens, which enlarges it and displays it on the TV screen. Since the lamp is essentially a light bulb, it will burn out after a few thousand hours of use. Save money and avoid calling a repair service by replacing the lamp yourself.

1
Unplug your LCD projection TV from the electrical outlet. Allow the TV to cool for 30 to 60 minutes. Slide the TV out and away from the wall so you can access the back panel.
-
2
Remove the lamp cover, typically located in the left or right corners of the TV's back panel. Loosen the screws on the panel and lift it off the TV.
-
-
3
Loosen the screws holding the old lamp in place. Certain LCD TVs, such as newer Sony models, have a retaining clip that must be flipped open instead of screws.
-
4
Grab the lamp assembly by the handle and slowly slide it out of the TV. Dispose of the lamp assembly.
-
5
Slide your new lamp assembly into the TV. Do not touch the glass on the lamp, as it will damage the lamp. Grab it by the handle or base only.
-
6
Tighten the screws on the lamp assembly, or flip the retaining tab closed. Replace the lamp cover and slide your TV back against the wall.
-
7
Reconnect the power cable and turn on your TV.
-
8
Reset your lamp timer, which will notify you the next time the lamp needs replacement. To find the reset instructions, refer to your owner's manual, as all TVs have a different procedure. If you don't have your owner's manual, press "Menu" on your remote and look through the "Settings" submenu, which is where the lamp timer reset function is typically located.
