You can make your own bird's nest centerpiece.

Centerpieces are used at parties as a focal point of a tablescape. Sometimes you have one large table with a central centerpiece, or you may have multiple tables that each need their own smaller centerpiece. Bird's nests are a versatile option that can be made in many sizes to fit your needs. They are also appropriate for different types of parties, such as weddings, baby showers or birthdays. No matter what type of party you are throwing, creating your own bird's nest centerpiece is inexpensive and requires little time to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Form a large bundle of decorative Spanish moss into a bird's-nest shape. Press the center of the moss down to create the hollow of the nest. You can leave loose strands of moss if you like or keep it tightly formed. Spanish moss can be found at craft stores. The amount of moss you will need depends on the size you want the finished product to be. On average, one large bag of moss should be sufficient for a large centerpiece.

    • 2

Spray the entire nest with acrylic sealant spray. This can also be found at your local craft store. As the sealant dries, it will slightly harden the Spanish moss, keeping it in place. Allow the sealant to dry completely before handling.

    • 3

Apply decorative touches to your bird's nest, such as glitter or feathers. Insert feathers by weaving the quills through the openings in the moss. Glitter can be dusted on.

    • 4

Fill your completed bird's nest. You can use blue-colored Jordan almonds to make them look like robin's eggs. Or you could place a small bowl inside, add water and float candles or fresh-cut flowers. Plastic eggs could also be placed inside.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can spray-paint your bird's nest if you want it a specific color. Do this after you apply the sealant. Allow the paint to dry before handling.
