How to Tarp a Tractor Trailer
A freight tarp is designed to cover a tractor trailer load to protect it from wind and moisture. A tractor trailer is usually covered with a tarp before the load leaves the shipping yard. Tarps come in many different sizes. The height of freight to be hauled is the deciding factor when determining which length of tarp to use. Tarps are usually fastened to the trailer with a combination of in-sewn metal rings and bungee cords.

1
Set a rolled-up tarp on top of the freight at the back of the trailer. Unroll it completely toward the middle of the trailer. Fold the flaps of the tarp down over each side of the trailer until all of the wrinkles are flattened out.
-
2
Throw the back flap of the tarp down over the backside of the load of freight. Fold the side flaps around this flap and hook them together with bungee cords by using the metal rings sewn into the fabric of the tarp.

3
Roll up all excess tarp along the sides of the trailer. Run a bungee from the metal rings on the tarp down through the side rail of the trailer and back up to another metal ring.
-
4
Set a second tarp at the front of the load on the trailer and unroll it toward the middle up and over the previously placed tarp. Spread out the tarp folds so they fall down evenly over both sides of the load.
-
5
Fold the side flaps of the tarp in over the front of the load of freight. Hook them together using the metal rings and bungee cords. Allow the top flap of the tarp to fall down over these side flaps. Hook bungees into the metal rings on this flap and hook it to the trailer side rail.
-
6
Walk around the sides of the trailer hooking bungee cords to the metal rings on the tarp. Run those bungees down through the side rail of the trailer and back up to the same or alternating metal rings to fasten the tarp tightly to the trailer.
