1
Connect all devices to the TV. Look at how many and what types of video and audio connection ports are available on the TV. Also examine the output ports on the devices you wish to incorporate in your home entertainment center. Examples of connection cables include coaxial, RCA, S-Video, SVGA, component, optical audio or HDMI. If you have all the cables required for the devices you want to connect to the TV, take note of how each input port is labeled on the TV.

Start by connecting all devices to your surround sound system's amplifier. Depending on the system used, it might be possible to connect all devices first to the amplifier. Then, a second set of connection cables can run from the amplifier to the TV. Other alternatives are to run a set of audio cables from the TV to the amplifier or run separate audio cables from the devices to the amplifier.

Connect all devices to a power source. Using a surge protector is recommended. Turn on the surge protector after ever device is plugged into it.

Configuring the home entertainment center is where the input labels on the TV and amplifier come in handy. For example, if you connect a Blu-ray player to your TV's HDMI 1 input and run an optical audio cable from the Blu-ray player to the amplifier, you would turn on the TV, set it to the HDMI 1 input using the input selection control and set the amplifier to its optical audio input. All other devices can be configured accordingly.
