If the sewer pipe in your recreational vehicle (RV) is broken, you will need to fix it before you can use your plumbing facilities. However, you can replace the pipe yourself without calling in a professional. Inspect and replace any broken pipes prior to taking a family trip. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Two couplings

Instructions

    • 1

      Locate the broken portion of the pipe. Cut the pipe two inches beyond the broken area on each end.

      Measure the distance of the existing pipe ends and subtract one inch. Cut the new pipe according to this measurement.

      Smooth any rough edges caused by cutting the new pipe.

    • 4

      Attach the couplings to each end of the new pipe. Slide them on until they are flush with the edge.

      Set the new pipe in between the cut ends of the original pipe.

    • 6

      Slide the couplings onto the original pipe until half of each coupling is on the new pipe and half is on the original pipe. Do this for both ends.

      Tighten four clamps on the couplings.

      Turn on the water and observe the connection while looking for leaks.

  • Check with your RV dealer to see if your RV is under warranty.

  • Inspect the pipe for cracks after you cut the damaged portion out.

  • Ensure that the replacement pipe and the original pipe are the same size.

  • Make sure that no one uses the toilet, shower or sinks during repair.
