How to Make a Casserole Dish Carrier
If you often take casseroles to parties you might find that transporting them can be difficult because they are so hot. Casserole carriers keep casseroles warm and protect the person carrying them from being burned. You can make them at home with a simple sewing machine. Give everyone on your list a homemade casserole dish carrier for their next birthday or holiday gift.

1
Choose two rectangular padded fabric place mats large enough to cover your chosen casserole dish. Choose decorative prints or colorful designs which you or the intended recipient will enjoy.
-
2
Cut two 18-inch long 3-inch wide pieces of heavy cotton or canvas fabric. Fold each piece in half widthwise so you have two 18-inch long pieces of fabric 1 1/2 inches wide. Sew all the edges to create your handle straps.

3
Pin the two ends of one fabric strip onto the long edge of a place mat in the center approximately 3 inches apart from each other. Repeat on the opposite side. Make sure at least 1/2 inch of the fabric strip is pinned onto the place mat.
-
4
Sew the strips onto the place mat. Sew three of the sides closed with a sewing machine using the stitch of your choice. Leave the fabric strip handles on the outside. Leave one of the shorter sides open.
-
5
Cut a 10-inch long piece of padded cotton fabric or canvas 6 inches wide. Fold the piece in half widthwise and sew along the edges. Sew one end of the strip onto the inside bottom piece of the open edges of the place mat. Sew at least 3 inches inward. Sew one side of Velcro onto the inside edge of the strip. Sew the opposite side of the Velcro onto the top of the top place mat.
-
6
Insert a casserole dish into the carrier. Attach the Velcro strip to the top to close. Hold by the handles to transport.
