How to Cover a Coat Hanger thumbnail
Turn plain hangers into lovely creations.

Covered hangers can make good gifts, and they are easy to make. It's also a good way to be kind to the environment by recycling some of those plastic grocery bags you have hanging around. Liven up boring hangers with some interesting decorations, or make color coded hangers for each member of the family. This is a project that kids can get involved in as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the plastic bags around the hanger tightly. This will create the padding for the hanger. Tape the bags to the hanger to secure them. Leave the hook as it is.

    • 2

Wind the ribbon around the bags, covering the plastic entirely. Start at the top of the hanger where the hook is, and leave about an inch of ribbon out.

    • 3

Continue wrapping the hanger until you reach the top again, the base of the hook. Tie the end of that ribbon to the end of the ribbon you left out earlier into a bow.
