How to Use an Aerial View of Homes
Aerial maps are extremely useful for giving a bird's eye view of homes and the surrounding area. These maps can be used for a number of functions, from showing proposed street routes and underground gas or electric lines, to mapping out areas where a subdivision can be extended or improved. It helps to have a proper set up for your aerial view map, and to be very familiar with what area you're working with.

1
Decide how you plan to use the map. If you're going to simply show how a collection of homes is laid out, then that requires a basic photographic map. If you want to show a proposed path for new streets, then you'll need to be able to see not only the homes but the surrounding area as well.

2
Get an aerial view map of the area that shows everything you need it to show. Basic aerial maps can be downloaded for free from Internet satellite imaging sites like Google Earth as long as you have an address for the area. Sites like Mapquest can show aerial views as well, as can Satellite Views. For more detailed or professionally done maps, you may need to hire an aerial photographer.

Make any necessary alterations to your map. For instance, if you're plotting the course of a new road or drawing a proposed boundary for property, then you need to draw a bright line on the map to show where the area will be. You could do this with a simple paint program, or with a more sophisticated tool such as Adobe Photoshop.

Use your map. If you're using your map as part of a presentation, make sure that you refer to it often, giving your audience a good view of what's happening. If you're using your aerial map for navigation or for construction, then make copies of it and give it to all persons who need a copy. If you're using the aerial map to get a picture drawn of your area, then give the photographs to the artist as a model for the rendering.
