Castile soap is an all-natural soap made from vegetable oils. This type of soap can be used to make shampoo, dish soap and even laundry detergent. Homemade laundry detergent made from castile soap will not only save you money, but it is an excellent choice for individuals with sensitive skin that cannot stand the chemicals in store-bought detergents. Things You'll Need

  • Gallon container
  • 3 cups baking powder
  • Sifter
  • 3 cups washing soda
  • 3 cups vinegar
  • 3/4 cup castile soap
  • Wooden spoon

Instructions

      Sift 3 cups of baking powder over a gallon container. Sifting helps remove any clumps that might be in the baking soda.

      Add 3 cups of washing soda to the gallon container and stir. Do this before adding the liquid ingredients.

      Pour 3 cups of vinegar and 3/4 of a cup of castile soap in the gallon container.

      Stir continuously until most of the lumps have broken up. This may take five to 10 minutes

      Place a lid over the gallon container. Use 1/2 cup of the castile laundry detergent with each normal load of wash.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have liquid castile soap, you can shave a bar of castile soap and use the shavings in your homemade laundry detergent.

  • Liquid castile soap can be purchased plain, or with a scent such as peppermint.
