How to Do Force Re-Checks in uTorrent

The µTorrent program serves as a client to the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file-sharing network. The program is capable of downloading simultaneously hundreds of files or torrents, each file being composed of myriad tiny "chunks" of data. Chunks can be downloaded from separate peers and then reassembled into one cohesive file when complete. It is common for some of these chunks of data to become lost or damaged in the process of being disassembled, transferred via the Internet and then reassembled on your computer. You can perform a "Force Re-Check" function upon any torrent in order to have the program check all bits of the torrent that have been downloaded and perform a cleanup of any damaged parts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the µTorrent program the navigate to the main window, if necessary. This will show a list of your currently running torrent download jobs.

    • 2

Right-click on the torrent job that you wish to perform a "Force Re-Check" upon and then a pop-up menu appears.

    • 3

Left-click on the "Force Re-Check" item in this list. The program will queue the recheck and perform the process when any other running rechecks are completed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you select multiple torrent jobs to do "Force Re-Checks" on, they will be completed in sequence, not all at the same time. So, if you selected a lot of them, especially big ones, the whole process can take a longer time to complete.
