Metal Edge Preparation for Paint
Raw metal edges on newly built items have sharp square edges, residual oil and possible burrs. The process to prepare the edges for painting requires removing any burrs, beveling the edge and removing any oil or dirt. Small metal objects are held either by hand or in a vise to prepare the edges. Large metal objects should be held by hand or prepared in a free-standing position. A metal primer is placed on the prepared metal object once the preparation process is complete.
