How to Meter My Comcast Limits

Monitor your Internet usage with a bandwidth meter.

Comcast is one of the largest Internet Service Providers, or ISPs, in the United States. While the company offers high-speed cable Internet connections in many markets, they also restrict, or "throttle," downloads above a certain limit. Depending on your contract, Comcast can either slow down your connection speed or charge you extra fees once the bandwidth cap has been reached. To avoid this, use a bandwidth meter---a program that runs on your computer and tells you how much data you've downloaded and uploaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Comcast Customer Central website.

    • 2

Log in by entering your Comcast name and password. If your name and password are not working, you may need to verify your account with a Comcast customer support representative.

    • 3

Click the "Users and Settings" tab. You will see a line graph of your data usage. This is your monthly bandwidth use. The limit for your account will appear on the graph. Keep an eye on your graph and avoid data-intensive sites like YouTube, Hulu and Pandora when you approach the limit.
