How to Insert Extracurricular Activities in Resume

How to Insert Extracurricular Activities in Resume thumbnail
Participation in extracurricular activities can enhance your resume.

Most resumes follow a standard chronological format that includes sections for work experience and education. One way to set your resume apart is by highlighting your own unique accomplishments and experiences. If you participated successfully in extracurricular activities during high school or college, it is appropriate to describe those experiences in a separate section on your resume. This is particularly useful if you have little work experience, as it will help to flesh out your resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the section title "Extracurricular Experience" in your resume. Position this section to appear after your education and work experience.

    • 2

List your extracurricular activities. Include the name of the organization, your role and the window of time in which you were involved.

    • 3

Write a brief description of your responsibilities and/or accomplishments beneath each activity. Begin each point with an action verb, such as "managed," "organized," "won" or "led." If the other sections of your resume are fairly full, keep this section short. If you have limited work experience, use this section to showcase the skills you acquired in the extracurricular activities. Highlight any areas that may be relevant to the job for which you are applying.
