How to Change a Samsung DLP Lamp

As the lamp starts to wear out in your Samsung TV, it will display a noticeably dimmer image until the lamp burns out and the TV no longer works. No matter what model of Samsung TV you have, replace the lamp yourself with just a Phillips screwdriver. Does this Spark an idea?

      Unplug the TV from the outlet and allow the lamp to cool for around 30 minutes. Do not touch the lamp until it has cooled, as it get very hot during operation.

      Remove the lamp cover by loosening the screws holding it in place. The lamp cover is typically located in the lower right corner of the TV's back panel. Refer to your owner's manual for the specific location. Typically there are four Phillips screws holding the cover in place.

      Loosen the screws holding the lamp in place. On most Samsung TVs there are one or two screws. The screws will likely be captive screws which can't be removed, only loosened.

      Grab the handle on the lamp assembly and slide it out of the television.

      Slide a new lamp assembly into the television. Do not touch the glass on the lamp, as the oils on your skin will damage the bulb. Grip the lamp by the handle only.

      Tighten the captive screws on the new lamp to hold it in place. Replace the lamp cover and plug your television back into the outlet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most Samsung TVs have a lamp timer that will warn you when it is time to replace your lamp.

  • Keep an extra lamp on hand so you can quickly replace it without having to order a new one.

  • Never try to replace the lamp while the TV is plugged in. Doing so can lead to electrical shock.
