How to Catch a Wolf Spider in the House
Wolf spiders (Araneae, Lycosidae) are non-aggressive spiders commonly found around the home. The venom of the wolf spider is poisonous but not lethal. This spider usually bites when provoked. If you don't like the idea of killing wolf spiders or would like to observe them, you can catch them and release them outdoors. Wolf spiders are very active at night and are easy to capture. Locate wolf spiders in cracks in your foundation and around windows, walls and doors. Also, search under piles of garbage and areas where there is disorganized junk. Wait for night time and use a flashlight and start shining these areas. Wolf spiders have reflective cells behind their eyes. When the flashlight hits their eyes, these reflective cells reflect the light back and make their eyes shine brightly making it easier for you to locate them.

Corner the wolf spider and make sure it is on the floor. If the wolf spider is on the window or ceiling gently sweep it down with a broom or stick.

Walk over to the spider and slowly place a large glass or transparent cup over the spider. Avoid trapping the spider's legs against the glass.

Lift the glass up ever so slightly and slide a piece of cardboard under it. If using paper, slide it under then wrap the glass with it upwards so that the paper won't bend when you lift the glass. Transfer the spider to a box or other observation enclosure if need be.

Release the wolf spider after catching it. Take the spider far away from your home and place it on some bushes or other vegetation.

Make sure to wear gloves when catching the wolf spider to avoid getting bitten.
