Setup.Exe Error When Installing Half-Life

An error with the Setup.exe file when attempting to install the video game "Half Life" on your PC will halt the process in its tracks. The error message, which reads "d:/setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application," is a problem that is based off of the disk itself. An easy workaround solution is to copy the Setup.exe file directly to your hard drive and run it from there.

    • 1

Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop.

    • 2

Double-click the "CD Drive" icon. Not only will it say CD drive (with the drive letter in parentheses), it will also read "Half Life" next to it. You will be taken to a screen that displays the contents of the disk.

    • 3

Right-click the file labeled "Setup.exe" and select "Copy."

    • 4

Click the "Back" button at the top of your screen. You will be taken back to the list of available drives.

    • 5

Double-click the icon for your hard drive (typically "C" on most computers). Select the directory in which you want to save the file.

    • 6

Right-click an empty space in the right window pane of your screen. Select "Paste." The "Setup.exe" file will appear in the folder. Alternately, you can select "Edit" at the top of the screen, then "Paste."

    • 7

Double-click the Setup.exe file. You will be able to continue the installation without the error message.
