How to Pull Movies Off of a DVR

Digital video recorders allow users to record TV shows and movies for repeated viewings. These programs are generally stored on the DVR's hard drive. But since the space on hard drive is not infinite, these recorded programs must either be deleted or moved to another storage device, such as a blank VHS tape. As long as you have the right equipment, you can do this.

  • Blank tape

      Connect your VCR to your DVR with a coaxial cable. The cable should attach to the VCR's output port and the DVR's input port.

      Turn your VCR on. Insert a blank tape into the VCR.

      Press the "List" button on your DVR remote to bring up a list of your recorded programs and movies.

      Highlight the movie you want to copy on your DVR list, then press the "Select" button.

      Highlight the "Copy to VCR" option in the next menu and press the "Select" button to copy the movie to your blank tape.
