How do I Fold the Back Seats Down in a 2007 Chevy Cobalt?

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

The 2007 Chevy Cobalt has a split-folding rear seat, meaning the rear seatback is separated into two sections. Each section folds down onto the rear seat cushion. Folding the seat down increases your cargo capacity and lets you carry larger items. You may have noticed that the seats have no release levers on them. They do have release levers, but unlike in most vehicles, the levers are located in the trunk rather than inside the cabin.

Step 1

Open either rear door, and make sure the rear passenger seatbelts are disconnected. If the seatbelts are hooked up, you may damage them when lowering the rear seat.

Step 2

Push the trunk-release button next to your steering column, or use your keyless remote to open the trunk.

Step 3

Locate the two levers against the back of the rear seats inside the trunk. There is one lever on each side. The levers control the seatback for the specific side.

Step 4

Pull one or both of the levers to unlatch the seat. Open either rear door again to view the rear seat.

Step 5

Grasp the top of the rear seat and pull it down toward the cushion to fold it down. Repeat for the other side, if desired.
