How to Test a Sony DVD RW DW-U12A Driver File
In order for the Sony DVD DW DW-U12A disc drive to function correctly (or at all) it needs its driver installed onto the computer system. Without the driver, the computer is unable to even determine what the drive is used for. To check if you have the driver installed (or installed correctly), there is a straightforward test you may perform with any DVD movie you own.

Open the DVD-RW drive and and insert the DVD movie into the disc drive.

Close the DVD drive and wait. If the Sony DVD-RW has a driver installed properly, the default DVD viewing program loads onto the screen.

Click "Play" and the DVD video begins to play. If the driver is not installed or functioning correctly, the Sony DVD-RW is not going to detect the inserted DVD. If this occurs, you must install the driver through the provided driver installation CD.
